What to see in Cahul

Cahul is a city in the southwest of Moldova, capital of the homonymous district. It is believed that the city of Cahul has been inhabited for many centuries, although it has had several names - the name Scheia was collected in 1502, and the name Formza was coined in 1716.

The location of the city has turned it into the scene of battles by several armies, having been disputed by countries such as Moldova, Russia, Turkey. The city was considered part of Russia from 1812 to 1856, after Moldova (1856-1878), later Russian (1878-1920), after Romania (1920-1940), later of the Soviet Union (1940-1991) , and finally Moldavia (1991 until today).

Apart from the battles, Cahul is also known for its thermal spa and its folk music.
